Maclean Genealogy & Family Trees
This page is for family trees and other genealogical information about
Macleans everywhere, and especially those with ties to Altantic Canada.
If you have done any research on your family tree and are willing to share
it, please email it to webmaster@clanmacleanatlantic.org
If possible, please send your tree/info in PDF and/or GED (Gedcom) format.
PDF is universally readable by just about everyone, and GED can be imported
by most genealogy programs.
Besides family trees, I will try to post any other genealogical information
that people send, if practical. If you cannot send it as PDF and/or GED,
please send what you have and I will try to convert it, or post it as-is.
Text files, Word documents, scans of old clippings, send whatever you have
and I will try to include it.
I hope that this page will eventually become a valuable resource for all
Macleans looking for information about their ancestors.
I would like to try to merge as many family trees as possible into one
"master tree", including as many people as possible. As a work-in-progress,
I would like to post the latest version of such a master tree here.
Please help this project succeed! We need your input!
Please save the files offline for viewing. To do this, right click on the
link to the file, and select "Save As" (or similar). Newest files are at the
top.

- John McLean 20K PDF text file, starts abt 1790
- James McLean 19K PDF text file, starts abt 1826
As for the older file for John McLean (James' Father), I'm not 100%
that this is James' parents, but the pieces seem to fit.
My great grandfather, James McLean, was a Sea Captain. He received
his Masters Certificate # C.H.T. 100,378, in Glasgow in 1858. The vessels
he worked on are:
- Emerald O.N. 3210 in the year 1859
- Griffin O.N. 26152 from 1863 - 1865
I'm hoping to find out more about him and his family on my next trip to
Scotland, but would be ever grateful if someone on your website
recognizes him!!
