A Message From Our President
Welcome and thanks for visiting our Clan Maclean Atlantic Canada website! We invite you to join the CMAC Association if you, your spouse,
parents, grandparents or great-grandparents bear the surname Maclean in any of its various spellings, or one of the recognized septs
as seen here: Are you a Maclean?
Although most of our members reside within the Atlantic Canadian Region, this is not a requirement, and we have members from across Canada,
the United States, and the United Kingdom. To become a CMAC member, click
Join or Renew Membership. Membership will help you connect
with other local Macleans, keep you up to date with current events, and also comes with a subscription to our magazine-style
newsletter "The Banner". Fees start at $35 and go to support the function of our group; although we are pleased to offer free
membership for youth under 25.
Since its inception in 1979, Clan Maclean Atlantic Canada has been an organization working alongside its parent group, the original Clan
Maclean Association, which formed in Scotland in 1892. Our purpose is to show allegiance to the Chief of Clan Maclean, loyalty to Clan Maclean,
and to promote the Clan and its heritage for today and for future generations. A Clan rich in history, we have much to show for the efforts
of the devoted leaders and preservationists who have come before us - not the least of which is the monumental Duart Castle, the seat of the
28th Chief of the Clan, Sir Lachlan Maclean of Duart and Morvern. Duart Castle has recently undergone extensive restoration work, and Macleans
worldwide flock to the Isle of Mull in Scotland to admire its splendor.
Clan Maclean Atlantic Canada membership is a connection which transcends time, and location! We get together several times a year in
Atlantic Canada for meetings, Highland Games, and to support local projects of the Clan Maclean Heritage Trust. There are many ways for
members to get involved - actively through event participation, or more passively enjoying updates and articles in The Banner - either way we
welcome you to be part of the group!
